Yes, FOX, There Are Many Laws Against Colluding With A Foreign Government

By  |

Gregg Jarrett, a professional liar at FOX Lies Network recently looked out of the TV and lied: “You can collude all you want with a foreign government in an election. There’s no such statute.”

It’s hard to know where to even start with such a breathless fallacy, but let’s start with the motivation: Just how anxious are you, Gregg, to have the United States be Putin’s bitch? In fact, no matter how benevolent the intentions, NO COUNTRY should suffer its officials colluding with ANY OTHER country, ever! THAT, YOU BONE-HEADED IDIOT, IS WHY!!! WE!!! HAVE!!! SEPARATE!!! COUNTRIES!!!

But notwithstanding the present author’s humble objections, Politifact is here to straighten us out on this point. Yes, in fact, there is a veritable buffet of statutes that collusion with Russia would violate.

First off is the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, which bans foreign nationals “from making expenditures to expressly advocate the election or defeat of a political candidate.” Plain old fraud statutes also apply: “It is a federal crime to conspire with anyone, including a foreign government, to deprive another of the intangible right of honest services.” And then there’s more laws against public corruption and a general anti-coercion federal election law.

To add to the legal findings specific to Politico’s article, we haven’t touched on the Emoluments Clause in the US Constitution, which forbids plain old gifts from any foreign government without the consent of the United States Congress. Since the Trump team was attempting to set up a private line directly to Moscow, that pretty clearly shows then trying to duck out of that “consent” part.

But on top of all that, which would itself be five ways to convict everybody on the Trump team, we still haven’t mentioned the biggest beatstick the law has to take down the Russiagate Treasoners – three words: Obstruction. Of. Justice.

The beauty of OoJ is that you need not prove any further wrong-doing. It’s what convicted Nixon, it’s what we always use to convict mobsters and racketeers, it’s what the court can hit any US citizen with as soon as they actively take steps to avoid investigation or prosecution. And it’s all we need to nail Trump’s hide to the barn, and the rest of his treasonous conspirators too.
