Chuck Grassley Calls For Kushner Investigation – Much More To Tell!

By  |

It’s been an interesting time for Iowa since Trump took office. Republican Senator Chuck Grassley was a pom-pom waving cheerleader for the Bush administration, and has so far thrown lots of dirt on Russiagate. Meanwhile, Donald Trump recently promoted Iowa Republican Governor Terry Branstad to be US ambassador to China, freeing Iowa of one of the old guard conservative millstones around its neck.

Now Grassley is calling for an investigation into Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, and his family’s business dealings in China. There’s a lot of background to this story, so this will be an interesting subplot to keep an eye on. Not the least of which is that Grassley just put his fellow Iowa Republican Branstad between a rock and a hard place.

Grassley also has assignments on numerous Senate committees that would have interest in Kushner’s Chinese deals, including the Committee on Finance and chairing the Committee on the Judiciary; these include subcommittees for “International Trade, Customs, and Global Competitiveness,” “Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights,” and “Oversight, Agency Action, Federal Rights and Federal Courts.” This puts any fraud between Kushner and China in both his and Branstad’s wheelhouse.

Branstad may have the uncomfortable position of playing a role in the conviction of Trump’s son-in-law, just a week after Trump awarded him his cushy new goldbrick job title! As for Grassley, the fact that he’s willing to stick his neck out to go after Kushner at a time like this could be a signal that at least Kushner goes down hard. The theory around the campfire is that Team Trump’s Kremlin Gremlins might just have picked Kushner for the fall guy. But that, like every scheme they’ve done for five months, will backfire anyway.
